Ukrainian diplomats initiate Maidan of Foreign Affairs Foundation

19 February 2014

Ukrainian diplomats initiate Maidan of Foreign Affairs in Ukraine on January 2014, ZAXID.NET, the news portal, reports.

Bohdan Yaremenko, the Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, the Counsul General of Ukraine in Istanbul and Ukraine’s representative to the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (2010-2013), is Chairman of the Board.

According to its statement, the Foundation “will offer a professional perspective of Ukraine’s foreign policy; adequate, clear and effective forms and vectors of international activities, based on the inviolability of human rights and rational interests of the citizens, business, society and the state, to Ukrainians and the world.”

The Foundation kicked off with a statement on the surge of violence in Kyiv on February 18-19, 2014. Among other things, it says the following: “...we consider the statement of Leonid Kozhara, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, on what caused the surge of violence in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine on February 18, 2014, as such that is aimed at misleading the international community on the essence of the processes taking place in Ukraine, and the circumstances of the developments in the last 24 hours in Kyiv. This is being done to justify the actions of the ruling party and the Ukrainian government which, for a long time, have been responding to demands of society with bloody repressions and pressure against civil activists.

We could not help noticing that the February 18, 2014 developments unfolded in accordance with the widely discussed scenario. It could well have been imposed on Ukrainian authorities by a neighboring state. Moreover, the escalation of violence followed several visits – unannounced officially but revealed by the media - of this state’s top official to Ukraine. The top officials of this abovementioned state have more than once urged the Ukrainian authorities to follow the force scenario in dealing with the Ukrainian crisis. Another noticeable aspect is that the escalation of violence coincided in time with activation of negotiations on the issuance of yet another tranche of financial aid to Ukraine from this state.”
